PROMETHEUS (B+)

Bottom Line: Setting an ambitious cinematic course to meet our maker(s), PROMETHEUS becomes an intricate, intelligent and indelible sci-fi thriller that’s also one of the most thought-provoking movies of the year (thus far; assuming you’re into the whole sci-fi thing).  More eerie than scary, more subdued than action-packed, this breathtakingly beautiful, unofficial quasi-prequel to Ridley Scott’s 1979 ALIEN is sure to spark discussion and debate within geek ranks worldwide.  Not without flaws, like thinly fleshed out characters making ill-thought choices (save Fassbender and Rapace; both brilliant here) and a script that teems with way too many unanswered questions – it remains an IMAX/3D-worthy space epic that’s nearly out of this world.

Starring: Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green
Directed by: Ridley Scott (ALIEN, BLADE RUNNER, GLADIATOR, BLACK HAWK DOWN and KINGDOM OF HEAVEN)
Rated: R
Running time: 124 minutes
Story: Filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life's ultimate mystery. Agree with you on all counts. This one will be discussed long after silliness like Battleship and Transformers (insert sequel # here) are long forgotten.
