MONEYBALL (A+)

Starring: Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill and Philip Seymour Hoffman

Rated: PG-13
Story: Based on Michael Lewis' nonfiction bestseller "Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game," the book's subject is Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane, who assembled a contending baseball club on a shoestring budget by employing a sophisticated computer-based analysis to draft players. (Sony Pictures)

Bottom Line: MONEYBALL is the SOCIAL NETWORK of sports movies! It’s effective, efficient, entertaining and Brad Pitt shines in one of his most accessible roles to date (his Jerry Maguire moment). It’s an involving, intelligent, character-driven, savvy and beautifully shot future multi-Oscar nominated film that doesn’t require your liking of baseball – just your appreciation of really good movies. You probably saw this coming from a mile away but…MONEYBALL is a homerun!
