SUCKER PUNCH (F)

Starring: Emily Browning, Abby Cornish, Vanessa Hudgens, Carla Gugino and Scott Glenn

Directed by: Zac Snyder (300 and Watchmen)
Rated: PG-13
Story: She has been locked away against her will, but Babydoll has not lost her will to survive. Determined to fight for her freedom, she urges four other young girls—the outspoken Rocket, the street-smart Blondie, the fiercely loyal Amber and the reluctant Sweet Pea—to band together and try to escape their terrible fate at the hands of their captors, Blue, Madam Gorski and the High Roller. (Warner Bros. Pictures)

Bottom Line: SUCKER PUNCH - as in you’re a SUCKER for wanting to see this movie and you should PUNCH yourself in the face instead. They spent a lot of money to make this so it equates to nothing more than cinematic vomit…only wrapped in a shiny bow. The dialogue laughable, the characters uninteresting, the acting horrendous and the story scrapped together from dozens of other ideas from movies like INCEPTION, THE MATRIX, ALICE IN WONDERLAND, SIN CITY, BLACK SWAN, KILL BILL, LORD OF THE RINGS, SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW, REIGN OF FIRE, BATMAN BEGINS, IROBOT, GI JOE and that’s to name but a few. SUCKER PUNCH is a boring, non-sensical, amped-up, tone-deaf, hyper-active, unoriginal, over-caffeinated, self-indulgent, all-over-the-map, check-your-watch-multiple-times-and-consider-walking-out waste of celluloid space – and easily the worst movie I’ve seen in years.

dude, calm down, the movie is not that bad, some people like it, and you need to settle down. I'm sorry that you are mentally challenged and all but you should not get to angry. Just ask your mommy for a glass of warm milk and a movie more suited for your small brain like Avatar. No offense bro. I'm glad your opinion doesn't matter, though I'm depressed many others share your opinion. I liked the movie you didn't. And just because you have a blog and you call yourself the movie guy, doesn't make you special. It's that extra chromosome that makes you special. I do hope you at least read all of this before you delete it though, but I'd get pissed off and delete it much sooner if I were you. BTW my judgement of you is based not only on this review but on 2 other movies as well, which I use to gauge a critic's sanity. One of them is obviously Avatar which is just shiny garbage (much like what you think this movie is), and Observe and Report which is the worst possible movie ever. You failed those tests. Go punch yourself, and get back to sucker-ing your mom's teet! How was that?

Well said, Ryan. I thank you for your constructive feedback. You certainly make a compelling, if not brilliant, case for the merits of SUCKER PUNCH and, upon finishing your comments, I felt as if I should view said film again. I mean, you really broke it down to it's essential parts when you mentioned your opinion of the film one time in saying, 'the movie is not that bad'. Genius. Inspired!

It's open dialogue such as this that makes the discussion of film so exciting. Peeling the layers of a film back, not unlike an onion, from two seperate perspectives is the true way to reach the inner meaning of any given film. I felt like that happened here tonight and I thank you for your insight, your feedback and your general love of cinema. Heck, thanks for simply visiting my very special blog!

It's a shame, however, that you actually get 'depressed' when others don't share the same, vibrant enthusiasm for a film you adore.

Happy negative-reviews-for-Sucker-Punch trolling!
