THE LINCOLN LAWYER (A-)

Starring: Matthew McConaughey, Marisa Tomei, Ryan Phillippe, Josh Lucas and William H. Macy
Rated: R
Story: Mickey Haller is a Los Angeles criminal defense attorney who operates out of the back of his Lincoln Continental sedan. Haller has spent most of his career defending garden-variety criminals, until he lands the case of a lifetime: defending a Beverly Hills playboy accused of murder. But the seemingly straightforward case suddenly develops into a deadly game of survival for Haller. "The Lincoln Lawyer" is based on the best-selling Michael Connelly novel. (Lionsgate)

Bottom Line: Zigging and zagging his way thru a fairly predictable yet thoroughly engaging and polished piece of double-crossing pie - McConaughey shines as a slick, booze-swilling, street smart and rarely shirtless (I said ‘rarely’) charm-hound bent on using the system to his advantage. A solid cast, interesting characters and tight script make this legal pot-boiler a must see during this madness of March…

Hey Brian,
Just saw the movie. Enjoyed it but am I THE ONLY ONE who has a problem with believing that someone would implement a strategy that gets them shot in the way it was presented in the movie (didn't read the book). How does a situation that includes an action that can end fatally for a person work and be believable?

SPOILER WARNING - DON'T READ FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE:

Are you talking about McConaughey's character coming home after all was said and done - only to find a certain someone standing in his living room/kitchen with a gun?

If so, I don't think he saw that coming... If not, please elaborate on which scene.

Thanks for taking the time to write!

He who does not enjoy any of the films as adaptations of the novels of John Grisham, you probably hate "The Lincoln Lawyer" because this movie is full of idioms, script drafts, clichés and themes of all tapes judicial subgenus .

Surprising. With a different, showy and credible Matthew. A tape that is worth it.
