ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES (B+)

Bottom Line: Great Poseidon’s trident!  Taking a bite out of The Big Apple and a new 24-hour news concept, Will Ferrell’s ANCHORMAN sequel appears in the eleventh hour and in doing so delivers the funniest movie of 2013 (a title previously held by THIS IS THE END, glanced upon by THE HEAT and WE’RE THE MILLERS and never even sniffed at by THE HANGOVER: PART III or IDENTITY THIEF).  It’s an immensely quotable, absurdly charming, graciously whacky and loosely structured story that should have most howling in their seats (if not, I kinda feel sorry for you)…  And although it may lose a bit of steam from time to time, it’s more than made up for in its ambitiously casted final battle sequence (yes, this comedy – like the first installment – has a battle sequence).  Plus, the commentary on what constitutes as news these days is on-point and laughable in its own right.  ANCHROMAN 2 is sharper, sillier, funnier and juicer than its already classic predecessor.  This is how you make a comedy sequel…  So good you'll laugh your class off!

Starring: Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, David Koechner, Christina Applegate, James Marsden, Dylan Baker, Meagan Good and Kristen Wiig
Directed by: Adam McKay (THE OTHER GUYS, TALLADEGA NIGHTS and ANCHORMAN)
Rated: PG-13
Running time: 119 minutes
Story: With the 70's behind him, San Diego's top rated newsman, Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell), returns to the news desk in "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues." Also back for more are Ron's co-anchor and wife, Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), weather man Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), man on the street Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) and sports guy Champ Kind (David Koechner) - All of whom won't make it easy to stay classy...while taking the nation's first 24-hour news channel by storm.
