2 GUNS (B+)

Bottom Line: Delivering a tad of what you might expect, a little of what you may have seen before and a whole lot of out-of-nowhere, goofball and gritty fun – this A-list studded, B-movie premise turns out to be one of the more entertaining movies of the summer!  Denzel is always fun to watch while Wahlberg tends to get funky with a bunch of stinkers, but together – in this – they deliver the always-at-odds, never-trust-one-another bromantic goods. With all the double- and triple-crosses going on it brought on thoughts of the exceptional GET SHORTY but they’ve still managed to put a fairly fresh spin on an overly familiar formula…  This R-rated buddy/buddy, action-comedy flick is slick, explosive, violent, witty, fast, furious and fun!  I guess now would be a good time to get Bruce Willis or The Rock on the horn, drop one of them in the mix and get us all prepped for a 2016-ish look down the barrel of 3 GUNS.  …so now, to somewhat blatantly rip from another man’s critical shtick – I’m giving 2 thumbs to 2 guns!

Starring: Denzel Washington, Mark Wahlberg, Paula Patton, James Marsden, Edward James Olmos and Bill Paxton
Directed by: Baltasar Kormakur (CONTRABAND)
Rated: R
Running time: 109 minutes
Story: For 12 months, DEA agent Robert “Bobby” Trench (Washington) and U.S. naval intelligence officer Michael “Stig” Stigman (Wahlberg) have been reluctantly attached at the hip. Working undercover as members of a narcotics syndicate, each man distrusts his partner as much as the criminals they have both been tasked to take down.  When their attempt to infiltrate a Mexican drug cartel and recover millions goes haywire, Bobby and Stig are suddenly disavowed by their respective superiors. Now that everyone wants them in jail or in the ground, the only person they can count on is the other. Unfortunately for their pursuers, when good guys spend years pretending to be bad, they pick up a few tricks along the way. © Universal Pictures
