MONSTERS UNIVERSITY (B+/A+/A+)

Bottom Line: REVENGE OF THE MONSTER NERDS!  An efficiently envisioned prequel that may lack the emotionally heartfelt and ghoulishly creative draw of its 2001 predecessor, but more than makes up for it in family friendly, collegiate fright-ernity boy hi-jinks and laughs… Charming and witty, this tale of the power of teamwork is a light-hearted, good-natured romp that’s worth the small fortune it’ll cost ya’ to take the fam.  Between giant handfuls of heavily buttered popcorn and eager gulps of soda, my eight-year old laughed heartily throughout and my six-year old boldly laid claim to it be being his favorite movie of all time – at least five or six times during said movie.  We were all sold.  This may not be Pixar’s most innovatively staged digital concept, but the fact remains there’s something here for everyone – and any critic telling you different is a dull-minded, dead-beat curmudgeon that’s better left to an audience that can comfortably fit in to a closet.  A screamingly fun family flick – even Pixar’s ‘lesser efforts’ can take most other animation studio’s flicks to school.
Starring the voices of: Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Nathan Fillion, Charlie Day, Sean Hayes, Dave Foley, Alfred Molina and Helen Mirren
Directed by: Dan Scanlon
Rated: G
Running time: 107 minutes
Story: Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn't always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn't stand each other. "Monsters University" unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends. -- (C) Walt Disney
