HERE COMES THE BOOM (B)

Bottom Line: WARRIOR meets SCHOOL OF ROCK by way of MR. HOLLAND’S OPUS in this peppy, predictable and pugilistic package.  Yeah, it’s simple-minded and formulaic, but it’s got a big heart and it never ventures in to the chaotically goofy realms of most Adam Sandler-produced flicks – and that, to me, is a really good thing!  No one’s breaking any new ground here, but Kevin James brings the non-annoying, charismatic pain to this sweet, solid and slightly bloody film for the whole family (or at least those members who can stand a little cinematic violence).  ARGO may fill you up…but be sure and leave a little weekend room for THE BOOM!

Starring: Kevin James, Salma Hayek, Henry Winkler and Bas Rutten
Directed by: Frank Coraci (THE WEDDING SINGER, THE WATERBOY, CLICK and THE ZOOKEEPER)
Rated: PG
Running time: 105 minutes
Story: Former collegiate wrestler, Scott Voss, is a 42-year-old apathetic biology teacher in a failing high school. When cutbacks threaten to cancel the music program and lay off its teacher Scott begins to raise money by moonlighting as a mixed martial arts fighter. Everyone thinks Scott is crazy – most of all the school nurse, Bella – but in his quest, Scott gains something he never expected as he becomes a sensation that rallies the entire school.
