ALEX CROSS (F)

Bottom Line: Literarily made famous by the pen of James Patterson and cinematically by the acting prowess of Morgan Freeman (ALONG CAME A SPIDER and KISS THE GIRLS), this younger incarnation of know-it-all-detective Alex Cross is a lazily crafted, cheesily written, ham-fistedly acted, I-just-don’t-care-about-these-characters, laugh-out-loud mess. …and although Tyler Perry has written, directed and starred in countless ‘comedies’, it’s this ‘psychological thriller’ that turns out to be his funniest work to date. Take all of the above plus a cartoonish villain, forced action and convoluted storytelling and you’re in for an awkward, uninteresting, I-hope-they-don’t-make-a-sequel sit at the theater. ALEX CROSS fails so miserably it almost makes me regret so harshly panning TAKEN 2 for similar reasons… Almost. Be sure and CROSS this one off your list!

Starring: Tyler Perry, Edward Burns, Matthew Fox, Rachel Nichols and Jean Reno
Directed by: Rob Cohen (THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS, DRAGONHEART and STEALTH)
Rated: PG-13
Running time: 101 minutes
Story: Alex Cross follows the homicide detective/psychologist, from the worldwide best-selling novels by James Patterson, as he meets his match in a serial killer. The two face off in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, but when the mission gets personal, Cross is pushed to the edge of his moral and psychological limits in this taut and exciting action thriller. Maybe if Madea had made a cameo?

I've read other reviews that are mostly dismissive. I've read at least one of the books, and thought they were pretty good.

From one of the IMDB comments:

"Move over, 'Plan 9 From Outer Space' ".

Another movie I'm looking forward to not watching is "Jack Reacher" with Tom Cruise as Lee Child's loner hero.

Cruise is not reacher (who is described in at least one of the books). Beyond that, I can do without seeing Cruise in anything after "Top Gun".
