LOOPER (A)

Bottom Line: A definitive must-see for fans of science fiction – this street-smart, unflashy and labyrinthian time-travel epic should also fully entertain a majority of the weekend movie-going masses. There’s a ton of raw ideas being bandied about – sometimes, perhaps too many – so, assuming you can stay on the same page (or somewhere near it like me), you’ll be treated to a sharply confident, uniquely intelligent, brain-teasingly creative and character-above-spectacle focused crowd-pleaser. Heck, it’s even worth the price of admission to see Gordon-Levitt and Willis deliver the stoically hard-nosed goods.  Jam-packed with action, drama, romance and oodles of cool – this is one sizzling, cinematic, sci-fi steak dinner that's ready to be savored. Chow down, enjoy and get thrown for a loop!

Rated: R
Starring: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt and Jeff Daniels
Directed by: Rian Johnson (BRICK and THE BROTHERS BLOOM)
Running time: 118 minutes
Story: In Looper, time travel exists, but it is illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gun, like Joe – is waiting to mop up. Joe is doing good as a looper until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self for assassination. (TriStar Pictures)
