REAL STEEL (B)

Bottom Line: ROCK ‘EM SOCK ‘EM ROBOTS: THE MOVIE. The TRANSFORMERS meets ROCKY. Call it whatever you want, this futuristically subdued, father/son bonding flick, although eye-rolllingly cheesy at times, delivers enough requisite thrills and exhilarating moments to entertain the masses. Part head pounding action, part heartfelt drama - REAL STEEL, for the most part, is the real deal. …or should I have said REAL STEEL is a knock out?! Or, Get in the ring with REAL STEEL?! Either way, it makes the perfect date for fathers and sons!
Rated: PG-13
Starring: Hugh Jackman, Evangeline Lilly and Dakota Goyo
Running Time: 127 minutes
Story: A gritty, white-knuckle, action ride set in the near-future, where the sport of boxing has gone hi-tech. Charlie Kenton is a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback. (Touchstone Pictures)
