NO STRINGS ATTACHED (B)

Starring: Ashton Kutcher, Natalie Portman and Kevin Kline

Directed by: Ivan Reitman (GHOSTBUSTERS, STRIPES, KINDERGARTEN COP, DAVE and SIX DAYS SEVEN NIGHTS)

Rated: R

Story: Emma and Adam are life-long friends who almost ruin everything by having sex one morning. In order to protect their friendship, they make a pact to keep their relationship strictly "no strings attached. No jealousy, no expectations, no fighting, no flowers, no baby voices. It means they can do whatever they want, whenever they want, in whatever public place they want, as long as they don't fall in love. The question becomes- who's going to fall first? And can their friendship survive? (Paramount Pictures)

Bottom Line: Let’s just get it out of the way – yes, I’m giving an Ashton Kutcher movie a good grade. I wanted to rake this thing over the coals, make fun of the title, something – but I’m at a loss. This isn’t groundbreaking cinema but both The Kutch and Natalie Portman, as the commitment-phobic, freaked-out love interest (a nice comedic companion piece to her whacked-out turn and Oscar-worthy performance in last month’s BLACK SWAN), are surrounded by a talented cast and a well-written script that’s not afraid to take a few unexpected turns. NO STRINGS ATTACHED turns out to be an entertaining, semi-predictable, occasionally gooey, lighthearted, friends-with-benefits romp with a little raunch thrown in for good measure…
